Welcome

Welcome to Kadode Kendo Club

Kadode Kendo Club is a passionate and friendly club based in Jesmond and Hebburn, Tyne and Wear. At Kadode we are committed to the practice and promotion of the Japanese art of fencing, called Kendo.

The club was started in 2014 by Barry Straughan (6th Dan and former member of the GB national team). The club is focussed on training and developing the skills of Kendo. We also incorporate fitness training, based around improving Kendo performance, keeping fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Kendo is a very enjoyable martial art which helps to build discipline, spirit and confidence.

We welcome members from all around North East England, including Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland, Northumberland and County Durham and local universities. The club has strong links to other local clubs, including Ojika Kendo Club (Newcastle) and Durham University Kendo Club. We also have links to clubs all around the UK, many of whom we visit to practice Kendo and build friendship.

Kendo is derived from the Japanese Samurai’s dedication to the art of swordsmanship (Kenjutsu).

Our dojo’s aim is to promote the amateur sport of Kendo in the North East and more generally throughout England and to encourage community participation.  Our members train up to three times a week – regularly participating in competitions, gradings and seminars.

Kadode kendo club is fully registered and insured with the British Kendo Association, the governing body for Kendo in the UK.
